Hello everyone! Thanks for stopping by. I know Thanksgiving was a week ago but I’m still stuffed! I was going to write a post about what to do with your leftovers but this year I didn’t really have that much leftover. There’s always those websites with suggestions like Turkey Tetrazzini or Turkey Pot Pie but I prefer turkey chili or even better, not having enough leftovers to make that stuff! I think each of us can probably eat leftovers from Thanksgiving for at least a few days before calling it quits. When I do this I’m always asking myself why I don’t make my green chili cornbread stuffing at other times of the year? That’s one side dish I love to make and eat, it’s so yummy I think I’ll make it for the blog sometime this winter. Let’s move on to the next few Holidays, Hanukah, Christmas and New Years.
I have a little secret place I’d like to share with you. It’s one of those special finds that are a throw back to “the old days” when you had Soda Jerks, Egg Creams and the Lime Rickey. The place is Conrad’s located at 107 Westwood Ave. Westwood New Jersey. Unfortunately because of Covid you are unable to sit at the counter and enjoy their fresh homemade ice cream, but you can still walk up to the dutch door and order handmade chocolates and candies for the holidays. One of my favorite things they make are the candy canes that are still done by hand. Here’s a video of them doing it.
There’s something special about handmade candy. The molds for the chocolates are old school, which makes them unique from other chocolates you can find in the stores. They have candies and chocolates for every occasion not just the holidays. Conrad’s also has a delicious selection of homemade ice cream and ice cream desserts. I believe they make the best ice cream sandwich I have ever eaten. Their ice cream pies are favorites of their regular customers. Currently they aren’t scooping any ice cream but you can bring home pints and make your own concoction. Call ahead to see if your favorite flavor is available.
Conrad’s also offers curbside pick-up for call ahead orders or you can order online and they will ship most items, excluding ice cream. If you live close enough to Westwood they will also deliver to your door. If you’d like to look at their offerings for this holiday season you can do so here. Online ordering can get busy, so be sure to order soon to ensure your gifts arrive in time. A few of their Christmas offerings I like are the solid chocolate figures , the malted milk balls, melt aways, chocolate filled straws (weird but addictive!). Their caramels are also very tasty and luckily they make those year round.
If you’ve been to Conrad’s and would like to share something please do so in the box below. If you have a candy store near you, and think our readers would like to know about it, please share that as well. Together we can make this a great holiday season. I don’t know about you but time is flying for me so I’ve got to jump right into the season or it’ll be gone before you know it. Until next time Boone Appétit!
What a fun post, Charlie! Chocolate cheers me up anytime! I’ll drive over there and pick up some sweets as gifts…and maybe buy a treat for myself, too. 😉
Hi Jenn, that sounds like a great idea, I’d look online first to get acquainted with the items available and what’s sold out. Weekends might be crowded so try for during the week if possible. Let us know what you think, thanks!
What a delicious review!
Loved the candy-making video.
Do they even make those machines anymore?
Hi NGBG, that is an old machine and just using a huge candy hook to start the candy canes was very impressive. Years back they were selling some old candy molds from the 40’s so they’ve been doing it a very long time. There’s a few other videos on youtube if you feel like searching. Thanks!
