Hey everyone! A quick little post and a special thank you to all my readers out there! I really appreciate all the questions and comments over the years. I hope you’ve tried a few of the recipes and restaurants and have found this blog fun and helpful. I wanted to place a couple links to things I didn’t get to this year. One, of course, is the good old Hillbilly Pumpkin Cake. As far as I’m concerned the Holiday’s don’t start until you’ve eaten a piece of this family tradition. Honestly it is amazing and goes back many generations in my family, give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.
The next thing is the turkey! Brining has become very popular so here’s a good recipe for brining the turkey. The turkey we eat today had a very interesting round about way of getting to us. The native peoples of the Southwest had domesticated the turkey and used the bird as a food source. When the Spaniards came to the West they found the Turkey and brought it back to Europe and bred them. The Turkey was named after the country because at that time everything exotic was thought of as coming from Turkey. The Turkey became all the rage for dinner parties and I read that in some cases people would actually rent a cooked turkey just to have as a center piece! The Pilgrims brought some of the original strain of turkey’s from the southwest to the east coast and they eventually bred with the wild turkey there. So there you have it, I love finding out about the origins of food we take for granted. So give a little thanks for the turkey this year along with all your other goodies.
I hope all of you have an amazing Thanksgiving. Until next time, Boone Appétit!
Hi Charlie! I have made the Hillbilly Pumpkin cake again this year. Very delicious and the maple frosting is amazing! Thank you for sharing and very thankful for you!
Thank you Claudia! I know that frosting is addictive! Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
